The purpose of this position is to support the mission, vision and values of the Charleston Fire Department through prevention and control of property destruction by fire, preservation of public order and protection of life and property through proactive community risk reduction, and the detection of fire related crimes. Work is performed under the supervision of a Deputy Fire Marshal or the Fire Marshal. The employee will be engaged in activities that maintain a safe environment for citizens, visitors, and firefighters through proactive enforcement of regulations and emergency response to ensure mitigation of emergencies. The employee will be part of a team responsible for conducting origin/cause investigation and criminal fire investigations and pursuing fire code related infractions within the jurisdiction. This position will perform needed emergency response, technical, and administrative work as required. Responds to structure fires, large emergency events, terrorist events, storms or other emergency situations to assist with emergency operations. Participates in emergency operations or assigned command role to mitigate emergency incidents. On a scheduled rotation shall remain available to respond to emergency incidents 24 hours a day to engage in fire department operations to minimize the further destruction of property by fire or other hazards.
